Rarely do I use the word “quirky” to describe a song. But I find it impossible to avoid the Q-word in regard to this eminently quirkified work of quirkosity by Ra Ra Riot. The plucked bass and guitar parts fairly scream quirk, as the vocals so charmingly brood in the corner of a café in 1983 smoking a clove and reading Bataille. Poppy and sweet, bouncy and neat, and very, very quirky. I like it. “Boy” is this Superfan’s mp3 hors d’œuvre for today. Enjoy

Tommie Sunshine may look like you could buy weed and mushrooms from him on the corner of Haight and Asbury but don’t get it twisted. He’s one of the most prolific DJs/producers/remixers on the circuit right now. Releasing remixes from a wide selection of artist, his talents are sought from bands across all genres. Major Lazer’s 2009 hit “Hold The Line” has seen its fare share of knob tweekers, and Tommie adds his own voice in the form of the mighty 808.

There’s no end to the myriad expositions of rappers detailing how they are better than the other rappers, and how the others suck. It’s all fun, really, as long as no one takes it way too seriously, and it provides a stage for all manner of lyrical gymnastics. I knew something was about to go down when I read the titles here – both of the song “Bully Rappers” and the album, “Lobotomy Music.” Living up to all of it, Short Fuze, Nasa, Eleven, Passive 65ive and Karniege each step up to the mic and testify over a tough beat and soothing flute tapestry. I am liking on it.

Taking the Mo-Town tribute band concept to another level, Mo-Tunes from Australia not only perform gems from the storied Detroit record label on the road, they also record them, adding a contemporary flair of their own. Here’s their charming cover of the 1964 #1 hit by Diana Ross and the Supremes. It is quite the labor of love, and if they ever come stateside, I’ll come see about them. Meanwhile their record provides some yummy pop summer listening. Hope u enjoy.

When it comes to artists who ignore trends and write original electronic songs, Ursula 1000 and DJ Ayers would be two artists who come to mind. And if I had to predict what kind of techno would provide the soundtrack to an all out zombie invasion, it would be acid. “Zombies” is a classic techno lovers wet dream and I hope that when a zombie catches me and starts chewing on my brain, this song is blasting in the background.

Let this Superfan begin by stating plainly I approve of a band calling itself Starfucker. Judging from their overall cuteness and the bratty charm of their music, I expect they’re getting plenty. “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” finds our intrepid fame-fornicators in a groovy state – sort of a morning-after reflection after a busy night of doing what they do best.

Most chillaxin’ boogie-maxin’ waxin’ dubmatic on the super elastic bubble plastic. Whut? Yes, kittins, here we find an instrumental joint from London’s own Dodo, and it is fresh-tarded. Tabla-esque drummie patterns carry wind and string synthy tones on a wander through the middle and far east. Sounds rather like Asian Dub Foundation ate pot cookies with Jan Hammer and couldn’t stop giggling. Props to Subverse for the tip, I wouldna evar found this w/o his ever valiant digital vigilance. Another musical gift from the gr8 Interwhatnot, for your enjoyment, because we can. Byeee
